A spacecraft designed to search the atmosphere of Mars for clues of life on the surface of the red planet has successfully launched.
The ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter or TGO, launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan early this morning.

After completing its seven month journey, TGO will arrive at the planet on October 19. TGO will study methane and other rare gases in the Red Planet’s atmosphere, and also drop a lander on its surface.

The TGO’s instruments can sense the smallest components in the air with remarkable fidelity.
